The Winterfest 2000 committee started planning events for CSU’s Winterfest celebration mid-fall semester. The committee is comprised of a group of student leaders that have been working along side Cecilia Clark, Coordinator of Student Activities, and Christy Still, Organizations Graduate Assistant. Their vision for Winterfest 2000 was to have a student committee plan, organize, and facilitate all activities during Winterfest 2000.
A student committee has planned a total of fifteen events between Monday, February 7 and Saturday, February 12. The members selected for Winterfest Committee 2000 are: Umecka Horsey, Amy Walters, Shae Hunsinger, Cassie Duncan, Becky Richardson, Sheila Kennedy, Alisha McLester, Shannon Sando, Yulia Komarova, and Miguel Hernandez.
The theme this year will be “Winterfest 2000…Taking a Bite Out of Time.” CSU will travel back in time and relive a decade each day of Winterfest through the events that have been planned. Here is a sneak preview of what’s to come:
Monday 02/07/00 The 50’s: On our first day of Winterfest, Shae Hunsinger will push CSU back to the 50’s by hosting College Games at 12:30 p.m. around the Clock Tower. What kind of games? Shae will have 4 slightly modified games from the 50’s ready for anyone looking for a challenge. Warm up your hips for the Hula Hoop contest Bring a big appetite for the Goldfish Swallowing contest Wash that down by entering the (Root) Beer Chugging contest. How many college students does it take to fill a Telephone Booth? We’ll find out in the Phone Booth Stuffing contest. The deadline for everyone entering the Banner contest will be at 12:00 noon. All banners will be hung, so look around campus and see which one you like.
Tuesday 02/08/00 The 60’s: On our second day of Winterfest, Amy Walters will guide CSU through the 60’s. Amy will be in the Davidson Cafeteria at 12:30 to host Jeopardy Through Time. Later that evening, Alisha McLester will host CSU’s version of Woodstock! Cougarstock 2000 will be located on the Intramural Field at 8:00 p.m.. If weather is not on our side, the event will be moved to the Gym Annex. Alisha will feature John Rush and other local bands. The deadline for everyone entering the Mascot contest is 12:00 noon. These creative works will be on display during the rest of the week.
Wednesday 02/09/00 The 70’s: On our third day of Winterfest, Becky Richardson will move CSU into the 70’s with a Tailgate Party between the Davidson building and the Gym annex. Becky will get things started at 4:30 p.m. What’s there to do at a tailgate party? Karaoke featuring 70’s music hotdogs, chips and drinks, Frisbee throwing contest, etc. Pull out your 70’s outfit and enter Best dressed 70’s male/female contest. Directly after the 70’s Tailgate Party, at 5:15 p.m., Shannon Sando will lead the Wagon of the Decades Parade continuing with the “Taking a Bite Out of Time” theme. How creative can you be? We will find out!

Later that night Miguel Hernandez and Gail Tyson have teamed up to end the 80’s with the Winterfest 2000 Talent Show. The Talent Show will be held in the Davidson Auditorium at 8:00 p.m. They have recruited some great talent and the judges will have a very hard time deciding who will win the grand prize of $150.
