ROAR!
To my fellow CSU students:
I am a senior, and I have seen many changes occur regarding our food services. A recent and much needed addition was made to our campus.
The Healthy Choice food deli has certainly made lives easier for people on the go. Or has it.
Like many of my fellow students, I commute to school and have a full-time job. I was so happy when they opened the deli, because this meant that I could eat between my class breaks instead of running off campus before going to work.
Recently, however, I have noticed a trend in the deli. I know that the staff should be friendly and want to make the students feel welcome, but I am not talking about just being friendly.
Let me plead my case. I have noticed that the lines in the deli are getting longer since its popularity has begun. Normally this wouldn’t be such a problem if the reasons for the lines was just because of the number of people trying to order food.
A huge problem in delaying the service in the deli is the fact that some of the servers are more interested in flirting with the young girls that come in there, or they spend fifteen minutes talking about rap videos or music.
I was in there last week and stood in line for over fifteen minutes because the server was just “handlin’ his business” with the only other two customers, besides myself, that were in line.
I don’t want to watch an adolescent mating ritual while I am ordering my lunch. As a result to this inconvenience, I was late to class.
My message is simple. Your job is to serve the waiting customers.
Yes, it is nice to see a smiling face and have someone ask me about my day, but this is getting ridiculous!
If I go to the cafeteria, then I am greeted with the yells from the angry grill man demanding to know what I want to eat. Or I get attitude from other employees who act like it is a chore to do their job.
I know that everyone complains about the food, but let me tell you, I have been here for four years and the food has really gotten better.
This is not a complaint about the food. I am talking about the staff.
I have already given up on the cafeteria because of the increasing inefficient and hostile environment.
Last semester, the grill guy actually yelled at one of the customers demanding to know what he wanted. Basically, we were wasting his time.
Here’s a message to all of you who work in our food services. I pay for my food. I am not on the meal plan, so don’t think for one second you have any right to give me attitude. Even if I was on the meal plan you have no right to yell at me. Do I come in there and yell at you?
One of the reasons I enjoy the deli is because of the friendly environment. The servers and staff seem genuinely interested in how my day is going. But I have the common decency to keep my reply short as to not inconvenience the person standing behind me. I refuse to be subjected to this every single day.
In case you have noticed an increase in hot dog sales, it may be because no one wants to stand around and listen to this never ending chatter.
All I want is a sandwich. It doesn’t take me thirty minutes to go off campus and go to Subway. Why does it take me thirty minutes in the deli when there are only two people in front of me and one of them isn’t eating.
When you clock out then go and sit next to Miss Cutey and flirt your butt off, but until then, do your job. I shouldn’t have to wait an additional amount of time just because you decide it is social hour at the deli.
I hope that in writing this ROAR I have gotten the persons in charge of our food services attention.
And for those of you who work in the cafeteria, check the attitude at the door.
As for the deli, I have no choice but to eat in there on certain days due to my schedule. You need to talk to your employees and get them on the ball.
Trust me when I say that I am not alone in my impression of the inappropriate behavior exhibited by the staff. I don’t care about the latest music or what home-girl is doing this weekend. Do your job!
