Campus Candid: Kyle Mote

This week’s Campus Candid is freshman Kyle Mote. Kyle still managed to be his usual funny and friendly self during his interview despite the broken ankle he got playing football with his friends.

Kyle is a theatre major here at CSU. He came to CSU because he was awarded a theatre scholarship. Kyle was also awarded a “scholarship to the best theatre school in the nation, the University of North Colorado, which is where Nick Nolte went.”

Kyle has an extensive theatrical background, including many leading roles. Among his favorite past roles are “Danny” in Grease and “Quasimodo” in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. According to Kyle, however, “My favorite play I’ve ever done, I was “Tom Wingfield” in The Glass Menagerie, which we performed at Thespian [Conference].”

As for his theatrical experience here at CSU, Kyle says, “I was the understudy for “Lloyd” in Noises Off and I just got cast in Catfish Moon as one of the leads.”

“I’m really excited about having the lead in Catfish Moon,” Kyle says. “It opens the first and second weekend in April.”

Beside acting, Kyle also enjoys music. He sings lead vocals for a band that he and his friends started. According to Kyle, the band is currently looking for a guitarist who should be talented as well as “kind-of ugly so Matt will have a buddy.”

“I like hardcore music,” Kyle says. His favorite bands include Limp Bizkit, Korn, Guns ‘n Roses, and Stained. His biggest musical influence, however, is Pearl Jam. Kyle says, “I saw them in concert last year and I almost cried, ‘cause it’s like seeing your biggest influence in your face. It’s just amazing.”

Kyle’s other hobbies include “right now just trying to walk.” He also likes sports a lot. “I used to like to play football,” Kyle jokes. “I played soccer in high school. I played baseball and basketball growing up.”
On the weekends Kyle and his friends go out to eat, go to Auburn, and go to the mall. Kyle also likes to go home and spend time with his baby sister.

Kyle’s favorite food is Country’s barbecue. According to Kyle, “The food’s good and the waitresses are even better.” He also likes Chic-fil-a, Mexican food, hamburgers, and especially french fries.

As for favorite actors, Kyle says, “My favorite actor growing up was Michael J. Fox. I wanted to be Alex Keaton and Marty McFly when I was growing up.” Nowadays, Kyle says, “I really like Edward Norton. He was in American History X.” Some of Kyle’s other favorites are Kevin Spacey, Tom Cruise, and Tom Hanks. When it comes to actresses, Kyle says, “I like to look at Jennifer Love Hewitt.”
Kyle calls Footloose his “favorite movie of all time.” The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams and Rent are his favorite straight play and musical.

Shakespeare’s Hamlet is another of Kyle’s favorites. In fact, Kyle says, “My dream role would be to play Hamlet because there’s so many facets to Hamlet. He’s like a real person and its hard for people to play real people.”\

About his plans for the future Kyle says, “I’m going to be a movie star. That’s not a goal, I’m going to be it.” He also adds, “And nothing’s going to stop me, not even a gimp ankle.”

Kyle wanted to give a shout-out to “the guys in C-12, the fellas, and ‘ladies and gentlemen.’”
